mkdir

mkdir: make directories.

Synopsis

mkdir [-p] dir…

Description

mkdir makes each directory named. It is an error if one exists already, or if its parent does not.

Options

-p

Make missing parent directories too, and say nothing about directories that exist. It applies to the directories named after it.

Exit status

0 if every directory was made; 1 if any could not be.

Notes

-p is the only option; any other word, even one starting with -, is a directory name.
