mount

mount: list or mount filesystems.

Synopsis

mount
mount source dir

Description

With no arguments, mount lists what is mounted, sorted by path, one a line:

\fIsource\fR on \fIpath\fR type \fItype\fR

The types are hfs (a disk), tmpfs (a filesystem in memory) and devfs.

With two arguments, mount mounts source on dir. source is a disk’s bus address (its slot path, as sata:1, or its id, id:uuid; see lsdev(1)), which must be a storage device in hfs mode; or tmpfs for a new, empty filesystem in memory; or devfs for the device files. dir need not exist: a mount point shows up as a directory.

The kernel mounts the boot disk on /, devfs on /dev, a tmpfs on /tmp, and every other hfs disk on the bus under /mnt (/mnt/sata/1 for sata:1) by itself, as disks come and go.

Exit status

0 on success; 1 with the wrong number of arguments, or if the mount failed (something is mounted there already: busy; not a storage device: no such device; a raw disk: invalid argument).

Examples

mount sata:2 /mnt/backup
mount tmpfs /scratch

Notes

There are no options and no /etc/fstab; a filesystem type cannot be given apart from the source.
