reboot

reboot: restart the computer.

Synopsis

reboot

Description

reboot ends every process, closing their files (so what they wrote reaches the disks), and restarts the computer: it goes off and on again, and the EEPROM boots afresh. It takes no arguments.

Exit status

It does not return when it works. If the kernel refuses, the reason is printed and the status is 1.
